Hold the Line: a new game type for CoH
Short Description
There are two teams, the Defending Team (DT) and the Attacking Team (AT). The Defending Team has to "Hold the Line", until reinforcements arrive. DT starts with half of the map under their control, plus they get extra starting resources. However, their income is reduced. Reinforcements arrive every morning at 6 AM. (There's a day-night cycle which takes 24 minutes.)
This gametype is meant for players who like a more strategic battle. (Instead of the highly tactical and dynamic battles that you're used to in Company of Heroes.)
Instructions
Select the gametype you want to play under "Win conditions". You can choose between Axis or Allies as the defending team.Game Start
Midnight 12:00 PM
DT gets half of the map's Strategic Points. (instant capture)
DT gets extra resources. (100 munitions and 50 fuel)
DT gets extra squads: Pioneer, Sniper, Motorcycle, Mortar, and MG-42.Game End Condition
AnnihilationRules
All Strategic Points take twice as long to capture.
AT's commander points income is increased by 100%.
DT's capture rate is reduced by 50 %.
DT's income is reduced by 50 %. (Manpower, Munitions and Fuel)
DT can build Field Defenses for half the price. (Bunkers, Mines and Observation Posts)
DT's building speed is increased by 100 %. (Field defenses also!)
DT's production rate is increased by 100 %
DT has no Population Cap.
Sight Radius is reduced at night.
Reinforcements: DT's restrictions are lifted and DT's income is increased by 400 % for 4 hours. (no reinforcements on the first day)
Features
The Atmosphere lighting parameters are updated every hour to give a sense of time.
The zoom-out is increased to allow you to see more of the battlefield at once.If you want to download and test this Beta version, please send me a PM (http://forum.1337coh.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=1) or request to join the Usergroup "Beta Tester" in your User CP. Ok just played the mod,
Loved the Day-Night Cycle, including the infantry voices when night.
But, when I started (played as Allies, and chosen Allies in the winning condition menu), there was no enemy territory, neither mine territory :S
I mean, ive just played like a Vanilla game, with all resource points as neutral.
Also, exactly when 8 Minutes were left for reinforcement, the game paused with a Scar Execution Error. It was going to be about the second night (the starting night as the first one)

Oh, also, at night when looking at non-seen map I cant see anything, i mean its too dark, is this intended to see terrain only through infantry? or maybe you can make it more bright!

hmm.. that's weird. I just tested a game as Allies and it worked ok. I think maybe you selected that blank win condition the first time? (I'm still trying to get rid of the default win conditions in a proper way.)

damn.. I've had that error once myself also. It happens kinda random. I thought I had fixed it. :(

sure, i can make it brighter if you want. On my pc it doesn't look that dark though, I can still see everything quite good. You know there's a brightness setting in CoH, right?

Revolucion, I added a new version 0.2, that will hopefully fix the issue. I can't be sure though, because I haven't been able to reproduce the error myself.. so let me know if it happens again.
Just tested the mod a bit and I really enjoyed it! I loved to play as defender with axis. The day-night cycle is well made and adds a lot of strategical gameplay. Im really looking forward to this mod. Hope you will add stuff like the Vierlingsflak in future for more defensive options.
I will probably give you some more feedback tomorrow :)

It looks like the ones used in the campaign. Maybe I can make a mod to make them available in MP as well. (perhaps buildable by a pioneer)
Btw, did you think the night atmosphere was too dark, also?
So will this mod be just vannila or will it include any new units to new skins. What i was thinking was maybe units or abilities only usable during night. So maybe flares,special forces,and maybe even tracers on the bullets. Though i havent played it yet im hoping to so ill just wait till you get the pm.
To create completely new units from scratch is impossible right now, because we don't have the modding tools to do that (yet). But I can unlock some stuff from the campaign and use it in MP.
Creating new special effects may be possible in the future too. (I know some directx shader programming)

Yes, excactly that one from the campaign. It would be easy to add in. You also could add buildable walls like done in KMOD :)

I don't know if it's easy.. The pioneers need to have their animation state changed (to that state where they put their welding cap on, if you know what i mean) ...and then this process should take a certain amount of time, so it won't be like "plop" and it's there.

Yeah I already done a Flak 38 for a mod of my own before. Its kinda easy... if you want I can do that for you.

Yeah, just add me in one of my messengers, so we can talk about that more detailed ;)
hmm.. this project is a little too ambitious i think. I wanted this to be played human vs human. But I think people who like mods, prefer to play against the AI.
So now my plan is to make this more of an AI mod.. something like Henry's DDay map, with scripted AI. But then so that it works in any map.. not sure yet how I will do this though, but I'll think of something. :)

quick tested this, the atmosphere things is quite nice, maybe I can use it in a later map for myself :)
for gameplay, I played as axis defender vs. normal ai on angoville, just noticed that I ran out of manpower very fast, but this could be very funny online.
sure man.. just let me know i'll set it up for you.. you can also make a new set of atmosphere files to suit your own taste.
yeah i reduced the cost of field defenses, so the defenders should really start building defenses fast and not capture new territory.. at least that's the idea. :)
oh btw. do u think the (expert) ai is any challenge?.. if not i could give them something extra.

I have been trying it out as well. Pretty darn cool, I love the day-night feature :). The only gripe I have with it is that the changes are too desicive, at the beggining of the game it is really hard to survive as a defensice player because of half the income, but once reinforments arrive, they are impossible to beat.
Errors as seen so far:
When selecting the gametype, it defaulted to blank space, something called "Fog of War" and some thing $$$12030$$.
Is this intentional?
no it should say: "Hold the Line".. the blanks are there because i wanted to remove the default win conditions.. which didn't turn out so well.

I just played it 2vs2 with ai as German... On map where are 2 bridges and place where you can go thru on middle. Everything would be fine if allies wouldn't make... JEEP RUSH!!! :eek::eek::eek:
Man i just defend and get "WTF!!!" when about 20 jeeps rush my middle defended by... almost nobody. I thought they will attack with tanks or something but those jeeps make so much chaos, they were everywhere, i couldn't do anything. Notice that i was playing on easy.
Also, would be great if AI would repair bridges which i destroyed with goliats :)
By the way, i would like to see some "dramatic defend against hundreds of axis troops" custom maps for this mod. This is because before coh released i was thinking about this style and this is what in coh is missing.
Oh and would be great if you would add... 2 units. Yes, 2 units. For attackers, a kind of attacking unit, for attacking only, which is bad in defending new, just captured points and units for defending ;)
on easy?.. 20 jeeps, that's alot of manpower.. and the easy ai doesn't cheat at all.
repair bridges is possible i think.. but wouldn't it still be easy to rip that engineer apart with some mg while he is repairing the bridge?
why do you need a custom map for that? explain.
you mean a unit that can capture points faster? or what?.. i could add the flak vierling for defense. (maybe only available if you choose defensive doctrine)

Why do i need custom maps? Cause CoH maps are less open-field. And for "drama prai... eee defending from hundreds attacking axis" you need more open field...
I meant unit that would be better on attack... I don't know about possibilities...
